Clarets boss previews Saturday’s meeting with Toffees

Manager Vincent Kompany admits although his side have performed well in recent weeks and picked up results, the Burnley boss says it ‘would be the goal’ to ‘match more of the results with the impressive performances’ starting this weekend.

The Clarets host Sean Dyche’s Everton side at Turf Moor on Saturday night live on Sky Sports after picking up four points from the last three games and Kompany says the team are ‘always hungry to play at home’ but need to make sure his team are ‘well prepared’ this weekend.

Speaking to the media on Thursday afternoon, Kompany said: “There’s been a good block of games in which we have performed well. In this league, like in any other league it’s about consistency.

“Consistently we’ve had good performances. If we’re now able to match the results with the performances then that would be the goal.

“The lads are always hungry to play these games at home. What would it mean? It’s such a difficult question to answer because it would mean everything as always, but that’s how we live our life towards the job.

“Right now the game needs to be played and to play the game we have to make sure we’re prepared to the best of our ability and make sure the guys are hungry for every minute that needs to be played on that pitch.”

Everton come into this weekend’s meeting in impressive from with four wins from the last five league fixtures and Kompany had high praise for their recent turn in form and for former Clarets boss Dyche.

“They’ve been a solid team in the division this year. The fact they are picking up points, it’s no different to when we were playing West Ham or Wolves, they’re are good teams in this league.

“We just have to make sure we’re at our best otherwise you can’t do it against these teams.

“From what I’ve seen of them, I’d be making a big mistake to treat this game any differently to what we’ve been doing in recent times.

“We’ve been in games and we have to try everything we can to make sure we get a result on the day.”

Kompany added: “I was thinking a little bit about it this week, every club has a longer history but in recent history every club will have a reference point.

“For this club Sean Dyche has been the reference point. I don’t think anyone did better than him, but it’s no different. There will be someone like this for Everton, you always have to appreciate what everybody has done and the contribution they’ve done for the club.

“As a manager you’re always looking towards the good habits you can retain and build on.”

Ahead of the game, Kompany provided an injury update on his team and a positive post-operation update on Luca Koleosho.

“Anything he’s still able to give us this season is a bonus, I can’t give you much more than that. But on a positive note the surgery went well, so he will make a full recovery and he will be back as new when the time is right, but we can’t put a timing on it for now.

“We’ve had a few other players who were out with niggles and who weren’t available, we hope to get them back if not the Everton game then the Fulham game, but it’s going in the right direction in terms of availability for the squad.”

On Obafemi and Ramsey’s fitness, Kompany said: “It’s short-term issues so nothing major. Hopefully the fitness is there for them [Ramsey and Obafemi] to compete, but we should have them available pretty soon.”
