Late Luton goal denies Clarets all three points

Burnley were heading towards victory at Turf Moor over the Hatters before a late goal ensured the points were shared.

Amdouni hammered in his fifth goal of the season from Wilson Odobert’s precise cut-back in the first half before Carlton Morris headed in the equaliser in stoppage time, which had to be checked for a period of time by VAR for an adjudged foul on James Trafford.

Manager Vincent Kompany made three changes from the side that last featured in the Premier League as Hjalmar Ekdal, Ameen Al-Dakhil and Josh Cullen all came into the XI for Charlie Taylor, Jordan Beyer and Sander Berge.

First Half

Burnley delivered the first chance of the night when Gudmundsson was slipped in on goal, but Town keeper Kaminski was equal to it and denied the Icelandic midfielder with a smart save before Odobert’s follow-up effort was blocked.

The Hatters responded quickly to the early scare as Doughty looked to pick out Adebayo at the back post with a fizzing pass across the face of goal but the striker just couldn’t quite connect onto it.

Trafford was then forced into his first action of the night as Barkley unleashed a fierce strike from outside the area aiming for the top corner, which the Burnley No.1 pushed over for the first corner of the game.

Rob Edwards’ side started bright and had another opportunity shortly after when Ogbene’s drilled effort from a tight angle at the near post was denied by the hands of Trafford.

But despite the visitors edging the opening stages it was the Clarets who broke the deadlock with 10 minutes to play until the break.

Foster charged towards the Town defence unchallenged, before spreading the ball out wide into the path of Odobert with the young Frenchman fizzing it into the area, where a deflection from the low cross into the box fell kindly into the feet of Amdouni to rifle into the back of the net and give the Clarets the lead.

Second Half

After a strong end to the first half, Kompany’s side came out raring to go and had a couple of efforts through Vitinho, as the Brazilian saw his first shot saved by Kaminski before rifling over the crossbar shortly after with his second effort.

With an hour played at Turf Moor, Odobert forced the hosts’ first corner of the night when his looping strike aiming for the bottom corner was pushed wide by Kaminski.

Odobert had another opportunity to double the Clarets’ lead after leading a counter attack and breaking towards goal and into the area but again Kaminski was forced into action.

Chances were minimal for the visitors in the closing stages with Burnley’s defence standing strong and resilient until a cross into the area which Trafford came to gather and was brought down under pressure from Adebayo with Morris there to head in to an unguarded goal and secure a point.
