U21S PREVIEW: FLEETWOOD TOWN V BURNLEY

February 27, 2024 12:01 pm

Trip across Lancashire on Tuesday afternoon

Burnley U21s are preparing for a Tuesday afternoon clash with Fleetwood Town in the Professional Development league, with kick-off at 1pm.

The young Clarets are in a healthy vein of form, following up a 4-0 win over Peterborough United with a 3-1 toppling of Accrington Stanley last time out.

The Stanley match was in the Central League Cup and Tommy McDermott scored a brace before Tom Tweedy wrapped up proceedings late on.

Now returning to league action, Andy Farrell’s team are 6th in the table with 22 points from 14 matches.

Opponents Fleetwood are eight points and two places better off, however, the ‘young Cods’ have played four fixtures more.

Led by Matt Lawlor, they are unbeaten in their last four PDL games and contested a goalless draw with Sheffield United last time out.

The reverse fixture earlier this season ended one all in Padiham, with Tweedy’s first-half strike being cancelled out by Finn Armstrong.

This game will be played at Fleetwood’s Poolfoot Farm Training Complex, with supporters welcome to attend at no cost.
